Francisco Castro Leñero
Francisco Castro Leñero is a distinguished Mexican painter known for his exploration of color, gesture, and geometric abstraction. He studied at the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving “La Esmeralda,” part of Mexico’s National Institute of Fine Arts, where he developed a strong foundation in contemporary visual language.
Since 1982, he has also contributed to the artistic community as a drawing professor at the National Autonomous University of Mexico in Xochimilco. His work reflects a refined balance between expressive brushwork and conceptual minimalism, creating compositions that are both dynamic and contemplative.
Castro Leñero’s paintings have been exhibited internationally in major institutions, including the Museo Rufino Tamayo, the Hudson River Museum in New York, and the Museum of the Americas in Puerto Rico. He is a recipient of the prestigious National System of Art Creators Award, recognizing his lasting contribution to contemporary Mexican art.
