Emiliano Gironella

Emiliano Gironella Parra, multimedia artist

Emiliano Gironella Parra was born in Mexico City in 1972, the son of Alberto Gironella and Carmen Parra. Though he studied visual arts at the Interlochen Arts Academy, Michigan (1990 -1992) family members and friends, such as Buñuel, Alechinsky, Bravo, Graciela Iturbide, Octavio Paz, and Paul Leduc were significant in his development as an artist. Initially interested in photography and cinema, he opted for painting, engraving and direct carving on wood, for which he is a renowned specialist.

His subjects involve Mexican and “castizos” themes: bulls, cockfights, and tributes to famous Mexican figures, like José Alfredo Jiménez, Jose Gorostiza, and Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz.
