Cristina Kahlo
Cristina Kahlo (b. 1960, Mexico City) is a contemporary photographer whose work explores architecture, portraiture, and social themes with clarity and sensitivity. Her practice reflects a deep engagement with visual documentation, often capturing both structural environments and the human condition.
Kahlo has participated in more than 40 collective exhibitions across Mexico, Europe, and the United States, establishing an international presence. Her work includes extensive photographic documentation on childhood disability, contributing to important publications in Mexico and abroad.
In addition to her artistic practice, Kahlo has played a significant role in the development of contemporary photography. She founded and directed the Alternative Gallery in Coyoacán (1983–1985), and later co-founded the Kahlo Coronel Contemporary Art and Photography Gallery with Juan Coronel Rivera. She also collaborated with the New Vision Association of Belgium to foster exchanges between Latin American and European photography.
