Gabriel Macotela is a Mexican painter born in Guadalajara in 1954, known for his dynamic exploration of narrative, memory, and visual culture. He studied at the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving “La Esmeralda” and at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, where he worked under the influential artist Gilberto Aceves Navarro.

Macotela’s work moves fluidly between figuration and abstraction, often incorporating layered imagery and symbolic elements that reflect both personal and collective histories. His paintings engage with themes of identity, storytelling, and cultural transformation.

His work has been exhibited internationally in Mexico, France, India, Cuba, Brazil, the United States, Germany, and Spain, establishing him as an important voice in contemporary Mexican art.
