Patricia Torres, multimedia artist

Patricia Torres studied at the San Carlos Academy at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, in Mexico City, and San Francisco Art Institute.

She has shown her work in more than 60 exhibitions throughout the world, including Mexico, Puerto Rico, Canada, France, Taiwan, and the United States.

As a painter and conceptual artist, she focuses on the body and the social construction of gender. Through visual elements and limited use of color and perspective, Torres seeks to create a conceptual representational form. Compositional planes are intended to portray different readings of the painting, in which one divides the other; perspective in the classical sense is non-existent. All the elements work to define and support the concept in Torres’ paintings.

Torres has received numerous distinctions such as the National Endowment for the Arts, the National System of Creators Fellowship (Mexico), Artist in Residency Grant, the Banff Centre for the Arts, and many others.
